3 Things to look for when buying a new pair of running shoes

1.) Good heel support. The back part of the shoe should be nice a firm so your heel doesn't slide around. Pinch the heel or try to push the heel into the shoe, if it is flimsy then it probably doesn't provide good heel support.

2.) Good arch support. Look along the inside of the shoe to see if there is different materials used in the arch that is a little more firm than at the front of the shoe. If it is the same material all the way across if probably doesn't have good support through the arch.

3.) A nice firm base. Grab the shoe at each end and twist. If you can twist it more than half way around or it feels flimsy then it will not provide a nice solid base for your foot.

Keep in mind that foot ware is not everything but a good pair of shoes can help. It is important to manage your load over the week. Give yourself enough recovery time between runs and try not to increase your speed or distance too quickly. Focus on good running form and exercises to improve your ankle, knee and hip stability.
